Dear AYO alumni –
While we’re wrapping up on a very successful 2009 AYO Tour, we’re
looking ahead to our long announced 20th anniversary, and the
recruitment of an AYO Alumni Orchestra for a one-off celebratory
performance in August 2010. The idea is to bring in as many AYO alumni
as possible.
Dates are set for one week in August 2010 (between 8 and 15 August) for
rehearsals and performance of the AYO Alumni Orchestra in Hong Kong. We
are at the moment finalizing some logistic details so that we can
provide you the exact travel dates. Meanwhile, the draft schedule as
follows:
Day 1 : AYO alumni arrive in
Hong Kong
Day 2 : Rehearsals (3
sessions)
Day 3 : Rehearsals (2
sessions)
Day 4 : Rehearsals (2
sessions)
Day 5 : Rehearsals (2
sessions)
Day 6 : Rehearsal (1
session) & AYO Alumni Orchestra Concert
Program for the AYO Alumni Orchestra concert is as follows.
Copland: Fanfare
for the Common Man
Elgar: Enigma Variations
Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique
This program is very significant to AYO’s history as it is the same
repertoire performed in AYO’s first tour, then conducted by Lord Yehudi
Menuhin. The AYO Alumni Orchestra will be conducted by AYO’s Founder and
Artistic Director Richard Pontzious, as well as AYO’s Principal
Conductor James Judd.
While a lot of logistical arrangements still need to be ironed out, the
most important element in the success of the Alumni Orchestra concert is
YOUR PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT.
Registration is now available for all AYO alumni at the following
link:
http://www.asianyouthorchestra.com/index-alumni2010.html
Deadline
of the registration is 15 March 2010.
So please reserve the dates and spread the news to all your AYO pals. We
will try to include all alumni to the extent possible in the orchestra.
If we are over subscribed, we will consider working on a rotation basis
so that each AYO alumni will have a chance to perform. Wouldn't it be
great to have EVERYONE here?!!! 10% of alumni would give us an orchestra
of 115 players. 20% of old members would give us an orchestra of 231
players. 30% of our alumni would give us 247 players. What a FANTASTIC
Berlioz Fantastique that would be!!!!!
AYO is happy to provide local hotel accommodation to all
successfully applied alumni on a share room basis. Cathay Pacific is
developing a special fare for all AYO alumni, family and friends. Our
AYO friends will host dinners bringing everyone together. Don’t miss
this chance to catch up with old friends, rekindle old flames, laugh and
joke into the night with your pals, reconnect with peers and colleagues,
and establish new contacts. Many AYO coaches will also be here for the
reunion. You’re also welcome to bring your family, wives and kids to
take advantage of Hong Kong’s summer season sale.
If you have any questions, please feel free
to contact us at
ayo@asianyouthorchestra.com.
We all look forward to your homecoming to AYO’s Rehearsal Camp base here
in Hong Kong.
Sincerely,
Asian Youth Orchestra Alumni Association
