Audition 2012

  

Introduction

The Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is made up of 100 talented musicians chosen by audition from among the best music students in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

They are together for six weeks each summer, initially for a three-week Summer Festival (Rehearsal Camp), and then to perform on tour for three weeks as young professionals with major international solo artists and conductors.

Summer Festival (Rehearsal Camp) & Tour

In 2012, the Asian Youth Orchestra 22nd Summer Festival will run from 21 July, through 8 August 2012.

The Tour will begin on 9 August, and continue through 30 August 2012. At the time of this announcement, AYO's 2012 tour will include performances in Hong Kong, Taipei, several cities in Mainland China, Gumma, Sendai and Tokyo, Japan.

Accommodations, meals and transportation will be provided by AYO throughout the Rehearsal Camp and Tour.

Invitation to Audition
Musicians who will have reached their 17th but not their 28th birthday by 1 July 2012 are encouraged to apply.

*This year's audition for Korean candidates will be heard by DVD recording. Korean students who wish to apply to AYO may do so by sending a DVD recording showing candidate's ability to perform major and minor scales (pick 2 scales of your choice), 2 prepared pieces, and audition excerpts as listed on AYO's website. Audition fee is US$50. You can pay by a US Dollar bank draft payable to "Asian Youth Orchestra Limited". Please send your DVD together with the bank draft to AYO Hong Kong Office before 20 March.

Application deadline: Please refer to your local representative.

If you are not able to audition in person, you may send a DVD to AYO's headquarters in Hong Kong, but be advised that we will not listen to the tape until we have heard all live auditions and your taped audition may only be considered in very rare circumstances. DVDs sent to AYO must be received no later than 20 March 2012. An audition fee of US$50 will be charged to those auditioning by DVD.

Audition Requirements
1. Major / Minor Scales
2. Contrasting movements from two compositions of the candidate's choice.

Results
Audition results will be announced on 31 March 2012. Applicants will receive notification by email no later than 10 April. All musicians invited to join AYO will be required to pay a Registration fee.
