Shannon Chieh

Shannon Chieh has been called "a virtuoso soloist" and "a harpist with ravishing musicianship." A leading harpist and teach in Taiwan, Ms. Chieh has been principal harpist with the National Symphony of Taiwan since 1999. She received her Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma from Indiana University under professor Susann McDonald. She also studied privately with Catherine Michel, Soloist of Opera National de Paris, and Ms. Han-An Liu, soloist of Munich Philharmonic.

Former principal harpist with the Knoxville and San Antonio symphony orchestras, Ms. Chieh is currently member of the faculties of National Taiwan Normal University and National Chiao-Tung University. During 1998-99, Ms. Chieh was artist representative at the Cite des Arts in Paris and was invited by Artists International to present her New York debut recital in Carnegie Hall.

Mr. Chieh is founder and artistic director of Pink Moon Music Theater, where she produces multimedia music theater work and concerts. Her recent projects include a concerto collaboration with British flute master William Bennett, the world premiere of Chung-Kun Hung's Chinese Harp Concerto and Joe Lee's Harp Concerto "Double Happiness". She has also released four solo recordings under the Elite/BMG label and publised poetry and travel books in Taiwan. This is her 12th summer with AYO.
