Introduction

The Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is made up of 100 musicians chosen by audition from among the best music students in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

They are together for six weeks each summer, initially for a three-week Rehearsal Camp, and then to perform on tour for three weeks as young professionals with major international solo artists and conductors.

Rehearsal Camp & Tour

In 2008, the Asian Youth Orchestra Rehearsal Camp will run from Saturday, 12 July, through Thursday, 31 July 2008.

The Tour will begin on 1 August, and continue through 31 August 2008. At the time of this announcement, AYO's 2008 tour will include performances in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.

Accommodations, meals and transportation will be provided by AYO throughout the Rehearsal Camp and Tour.

Invitation to Audition

Musicians who will have reached their 17th but not their 28th birthday by 1 July 2008 are encouraged to apply.

For specific audition dates & venues, please contact your local AYO representative. Audition application fee may apply in some cities. Please check with your local representative.

Audition Requirements

1. Major / Minor Scales
2. Contrasting movements from two compositions of the candidate's choice.
3. Sight-reading from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, selections from Suites I & II.

Results

Audition results will be announced on 1 April 2008. Applicants will receive notification by mail no later than 10 April. All musicians invited to join AYO will be required to pay a Registration fee.
