Artist-Faculty

Timothy J. Spencer, Luthier
|
|
Timothy J. Spencer, Master
Craftsman for over 30 years, is a renowned expert, maker and
restorer of violins, violas and celli.
His interest in violin making began in 1973 and when he was just 15
the opportunity to apprentice with W. E. Hill and Son’s in London
was presented to him. He has worked in Hong Kong since 1988, gaining
the respect and confidence of string players throughout Asia for his
commitment to high quality craftsmanship.
In 1998 he founded Hong Kong Strings in partnership with Ron Wilson
which soon earned a well-deserved reputation for its fine collection
of instruments and expert restoration workshop. Their services are
much in demand throughout Asia and this year Hong Kong Strings is
proud to be associated with the Asian Youth Orchestra as their
official luthier.
