Yehudi Menuhin
Founding Music Director
|
I was privileged to work with the Asian Youth Orchestra and found it a deeply moving
experience. First of all, young people anywhere who are giving their heart and soul to
expressing their emotions of life through music is an experience which always renews my
faith and my hope for the future. But beyond this inauguration of a youth orchestra
consisting of so many of the Asian people joined in performing music of universal value,
was a symbol of a future where cultures will co-operate in dance, human arts and human
knowledge.
We cannot expect this of nationalism. This orchestra will, therefore, become more and
more essential and important as it leads people and cultures to understanding each other
and to living in peace and harmony.
Our responsibility is therefore very great, as at the present time these dreams of all
ages are negated by so many forces which we can already counteract by the kind of work,
the kind of living together, and the kind of dedication which the Asian Youth Orchestra
teaches.
May it bring the inspiration that we so sorely need.
