Christopher Jespon

Cello
 

Upon finish his initial studies at the Royal College of Music with Professor Alexander Boyarsky, Christopher Jepson continued his education at the Hochschule fur Musik “Hanns Eisler”, Berlin, under Professor Hans-Jakob Eschenburg.


After two years in the cello section of the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra, Berlin, he took up the position of Solo Cello in the Sinfonieorchester Basel. Since 2011 he is Solo cello of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival Orchestra, and he plays regularly as guest principal cello in Orchestras across Europe including Luzern, Bergen, Deutsches Kammer Symphony, Berlin, and Kammerorchester Basel.
 

Mr. Jepson gives recitals, and is regularly invited to perform in various chamber music festivals. As a teacher, Mr. Jepson was professor of cello at the British Isles Music Festival, England, from 2016-18, where he is still on the board of directors. As well as teaching privately, he has given masterclasses in the China Conservatory for Music, Beijing, and The University of Santiago, Chile, to name a few.


Mr. Jepson is the founder and director of Rhein Klassik, an initiative organizing concerts with the aim of supporting musicians during the COVID pandemic, creating opportunities for freelance musicians, and generating future scholarships for students in need of financial assistance. This is his first summer with AYO.
