Danilo Grassi
Percussion
Danilo Grassi holds the Chair of Percussion Instruments at the A. Boito Conservatory in Parma and he is the principal instructor of the Master classes for percussionists under the patronage of the European Union.
As a soloist, Danilo Grassi has participated in the preparation and performance of premieres by Luciano Berio, Chick Corea, Adriano Guarnieri, Giacomo Manzoni, Steve Reich, Max Roach, Giacinto Scelsi, Iannis Xenakis, in venues such as the Paris Opera Bastille, New York’s Merkin Concert Hall, Lisbon’s Gulbenkian Centre, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala and Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera. He has collaborated with composers Pierre Boulez, Franco Donatoni and Gérard Grisey, and worked with the Filarmonica della Scala, the Orchestra of Florence’s Maggio Musicale, the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI (Italian radio and television), the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, the Jerusalem Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfonica reale of Seville.
As a chamber musician, he has worked with the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, Ravenna’s Accademia Bizantina, the Arnold Schönberg Choir of Vienna, the Neue Vocalsolisten of Stuttgart, the Athestis Chorus, the CARME group and the Eco Ensemble of Milan, Tempo Reale in Florence, Nuova Consonanza in Rome and Musica Insieme in Cremona. He has also been involved in important collaborations with Martha Argerich, Markus Stockhausen, the Ensemble Inter- Contemporain, the Ensemble Edgard Varèse and the Ensemble Labèque. In November 2018 he started a collaboration as a Guest Teacher at the HEM of Genève.
