Shannon Chieh
Harp
A leading harpist and educator in Taiwan and across Asia, Ms. Chieh has been principal harpist with the National Symphony of Taiwan and on the faculty of National Taiwan Normal University since 1999. Previously, she was the former principal harpist of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and San Antonio Symphony in the United States, and presented her New York debut with recitals at Carnegie Hall. Since then, Ms. Chieh has been a constant figure in the international harp scene. In demand internationally, her recent appearances include serving as a soloist and jury member at the Nippon International Harp Competition, Korea International Harp Festival, Singapore Harpfest and etc. Ms. Chieh can also be heard on numerous recordings, including her release of four solo recordings under the Elite/BMG label.
Founded by herself in 2003, Ms. Chieh is the artistic director of Pink Moon Music Theatre, where she has led multiple multimedia music theatre productions such as the award-winning productions of Blue Mosaic, Scarlet Saraband and River. Then, in 2015, she founded the first Taiwan International Harp Festival and continues to serve as its music director. The event focused on「Harp vs. Crossover Arts」and successfully drew in nearly 50 prominent musicians and artists from worldwide. The festival was awarded the silver prize at the 2016 Pan Pacific Chinese Public Relations Awards. Ms. Chieh will continue the vision of the festival this June (2019) with the second edition of the Taiwan International Harp Festival.
Ms. Chieh holds a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma from Indiana University, as well as a Diplome Superieur de Concertiste from Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. Her major teachers are among the most prestigious figures of the harp: Susann McDonald, Catherine Michel, Isabelle Perrin and Han-An Liu. In addition, she is a published author with works on poetry and travel books in Taiwan.
